What’s in the beta, and what isn’t?
The Inkhane closed beta is free and runs with the people we invite. So you know what to expect before you apply, this page lists what is ready and, just as plainly, what isn’t yet.

What’s in it?
Writing
- Any kind of long-form writing: novels, short stories, screenplays, stage plays, poetry, essays, memoir and theses. You start a new project by choosing what you’re writing.
- Your book’s skeleton: a tree of parts, chapters and scenes; drag scenes to move them; every scene has its own notes, status and point of view.
- Page layout: choose from 29 typefaces, or switch to a page-free flow when you’d rather just write.
- Spell check in your book’s language (your browser’s own dictionary), scene versions, and “Cuttings”, which keeps the passages you cut so you can bring them back.
- Split view: keep another scene, an older version or a character card open beside the one you’re writing.
Planning
- 34 structure templates: the three-act structure, the Hero’s Journey, Blake Snyder’s 15 beats and more. Choose a thesis and the thesis layout is set up for you.
- Lorebook: characters, places and objects. Click a character’s name in your text and their card opens.
- Timeline, mind map and pacing chart: rate scenes for tension, emotion and action, and see the rhythm of your book.
Writing habit
- A daily goal, a writing streak, a garden that grows a little every day, and badges.
- A Pomodoro timer, focus music, and read-aloud that reads your writing back to you.
Files
- Export: Word (DOCX), PDF, EPUB, ODT, Markdown, plain text, Final Draft (for screenplays) and a Scrivener project.
- Import: DOCX, EPUB, RTF, Markdown and Scrivener, plus photos of handwritten notebook pages.
- It opens without an internet connection, and you keep writing.
AI (optional)
- No key of your own needed: when you turn on the AI features, a built-in assistant is ready; during the beta we pay for it. There is a daily allowance; if you use it up, it renews the next day.
- What does it do? It reads your scene the way an editor would and leaves notes, checks it against your Lorebook for consistency, and corrects language and spelling; it can tighten your text, speed it up or slow it down. You see each suggestion on its own and accept only the ones you want. It never rewrites your text on its own.
- Images for your Lorebook: from the traits you wrote on a character, place or object card, it draws a few images and you pick one.
- Reading handwriting: turn photos of notebook pages into text.
- See it before you use it: AI is off at the start, but the Assistant tab shows what it does, and you can try it on a sample book. For your own books, turn it on with Tools → AI features…; you’re asked for consent the first time. If you don’t turn it on, your text goes nowhere.
- If you like, you can also add your own API key for OpenAI, Claude or Gemini, or a model running on your own computer. With your OpenAI key you can also pick a natural-sounding voice for read-aloud.
Help
- An in-app guide, and Inky, the helper octopus who answers your questions.
- Sample books that show the features filled in (for now the samples are in Turkish).
- With Help → Send feedback… you report a problem or a suggestion without leaving the app.
What’s missing or limited?
- No sync between devices yet; it’s next. Your books are stored only in the browser you use; they are never uploaded to our servers. To move to another device or browser, you use a backup file.
- You make your own backups. If you clear your browser data, or write in a private (incognito) window, your book is lost. The app reminds you regularly to download a backup.
- Phones get a simpler mode. Inkhane works best on a computer or tablet. On a phone, a dedicated phone mode lets you pick a scene and keep writing; the planning tools are made for larger screens.
- No co-writing yet; it comes after sync. For now, you can’t edit a book at the same time as someone else.
- Read-aloud uses your device’s own voices unless you add your own OpenAI key.
- Text read from handwriting needs a check from you; with AI off, reading happens inside your browser and works best on neat handwriting.
- The interface is in English and Turkish; more languages later.
- Nothing to install: Inkhane runs in the browser. We have tested it most with Chrome on a computer.
- It’s a beta: things can break and some things may change. Every problem you find is valuable to us.
What do we ask of you?
- Honest feedback: what you liked, what confused you, and where you got stuck.
- Sign-in has no password: you enter a one-time code sent to your email.
- The app counts how often each feature is used, without your identity or your text; you can turn this off in the Help menu. Details are in the Privacy Notice.
